How to Use Ozone Decomposition Catalysts Safely?

Ozone decomposition catalysts can catalytically decompose ozone into oxygen, but improper use can significantly compromise their safety and effectiveness.

Ozone decomposition catalysts have a wide range of applications, including industry, electronics, and medical. They decompose ozone into oxygen at room temperature. Choosing the right ozone decomposition catalyst, as well as installation and maintenance during use, are crucial factors.

Ozone decomposition catalysts

Core Application Scenarios for Ozone Decomposition Catalysts

1. Industrial: Processes using large ozone generators, such as water treatment, paper bleaching, and chemical oxidation, generate large amounts of high-concentration residual ozone tail gas. In these cases, the ozone catalyst must be heat-resistant, such as one with a precious metal or metal oxide carrier.

2. Electronics and Semiconductor Industry: UV lithography equipment within cleanrooms generates ozone, and residual ozone can corrode precision components. When selecting a catalyst, high cleanliness standards must be met to prevent dust generation. During installation, high-efficiency filters must be installed before and after the catalyst bed to prevent particulate matter from contaminating the cleanroom environment.

3. Medical and Laboratory Environments: Medical ozone therapy devices, sterilization cabinets, and laboratory UV equipment all generate ozone, which can directly affect the health of medical staff. Inorganic composite oxide catalysts should be used in these environments, and the ambient concentration should be regularly monitored with an ozone monitor.

General Safety Guidelines and Precautions

1. Moisture-Proof Storage and Pretreatment: The catalyst must be sealed and stored in a dry environment. Before use, use a 20-100 mesh sieve to remove fine dust generated during transportation to prevent dust from blocking the airflow path, causing excessive air resistance or incomplete purification.

2. Humidity control is key: Ambient humidity is the primary factor affecting efficiency. Excessive humidity can poison and deactivate the catalyst. In high-humidity environments, a pre-drying agent must be installed before the catalyst or the device must be equipped with a heated dehumidification module to protect catalyst activity.

3. Regular monitoring and replacement: Catalysts have a service life, typically 1-2 years or longer, but this is also affected by operating efficiency. Therefore, they should be inspected frequently during use. If the ozone decomposition catalyst's efficiency falls below standard, it should be replaced promptly to prevent the risk of ozone leakage.
