The "high degree of tacit understanding" between ozone catalysts and ozone generators
Ozone generators are devices that produce ozone (O₃) by artificial methods. Its core principle is to use high-voltage discharge, ultraviolet radiation or electrolysis to decompose and recombine oxygen (O₂) molecules in the air into ozone molecules. It is a device for producing ozone, but high-intensity ozone is harmful to both the human body and the environment. This harm mainly comes from the strong oxidizing nature and improper use of ozone itself, not the ozone generator device itself.
Can ozone generators effectively purify the air?
Some devices claim in advertisements that they can kill viruses, bacteria, mold and other biological pollutants, and remove chemical pollutants and odors. However, when the ozone concentration is below the health standard, it cannot effectively remove biological pollutants. Ozone also cannot remove particulate matter (such as dust and pollen) in the air, including most allergen particles.
The ozone produced by air purifiers has little effect on removing chemical pollutants. In fact, studies have found that ozone reacts with existing chemicals in the air to produce additional toxic pollutants, most notably formaldehyde and ultrafine particles. Some consumers buy air purifiers to eliminate odors.
There is scientific evidence that ozone concentrations below health standards cannot effectively remove many odor-causing chemicals. Ozone also suppresses people's sense of smell. This not only masks rather than eliminates odors, but also reduces the human body's ability to perceive high concentrations of ozone, which can be dangerous. Unlike in the air, ozone can be successfully used to purify water in some applications. This is because high concentrations of ozone can be used in water, most of which reacts in water, and no one is usually present when ozone is used.
Exposure to ozone can irritate and cause inflammation of the lining of the respiratory system, causing symptoms such as coughing, chest tightness, shortness of breath and difficulty breathing. Ozone can aggravate asthma symptoms and may even induce asthma.
In response to the hazards that may be caused by ozone generators, treatment measures need to start from multiple aspects such as risk prevention, concentration control, emergency treatment and equipment maintenance. Among them, ozone decomposition catalysts play an important role in ozone generators. Ozone decomposition catalysts are a class of functional materials that can accelerate the decomposition of ozone (O₃) into oxygen (O₂). Its essence is to achieve efficient decomposition of ozone into oxygen (2O₃→3O₂) through the adsorption, activation and reaction path optimization of ozone molecules by catalysts. It is widely used in ozone generators, mainly used to control ozone concentration, reduce residual hazards, and improve equipment safety.
In short, from the perspective of human health and environmental protection,
ozone catalysts and ozone generators form an indispensable cooperative relationship. With them, the advantages and disadvantages of ozone can be firmly "grasped" by humans!
